Solan - A Quiet Town
A quiet town, Solan in Himachal Pradesh has numerous of picturesque spots
ideal for walks and picnics. Solan in Himachal Pradesh is the district
headquarters and is the home to Meakin Brewery, famous brewery which was set
up in 1835. Situated at a distance of 48-km from Shimla, Solan is at an
altitude of 1,350 m. It is also the bifurcation point for Rajgarh with it's
orchards and enchanting villages. The district headquarters, Solan is on the
way between Kalka and Shimla on the main road and rail route. Set in an
agricultural surroundings, Solan grows variety of vegetables and mushrooms.

Karol Tibba and Meteol Tibba are pretty spots while the Kotla Nallah with
its stream, the Saproon Spring and the Happy Valley are delightful locations
to relax. Mareog, Gaura and Karkanu on the River Giri, all within a 20 km
radius are excellent for a spot of angling.

By Trackways : Nearest railhead and airport are at Shimla,
on the Kalka - Shimla narrow gauge line.
By Roadways : Well connected by road, as it is on the
Kalka-Shimla route. 315 Km from Delhi, 68 Km from Chandigarh, 48 Km from
Shimla and 42 Km from Kalka.
The Major Fascinating Sights At Solan
Barog : Barog is just 5 km from Solan, was a major
railhead on the railway line in the early part of the century. The hill
train halted here for an hour, while the travellers were indulged in a
lunch. Today, the little town with its crispy clean air and inspiring views,
is a little, but exotic holiday destination in itself.
Parwanoo : Located on the edge with Punjab, Parwanoo is
the gateway to the state of Himachal Pradesh. On the main highway from
Chandigarh to Shimla, it has hotels and petrol stations - convenient for a
halt.
Arki : At a distance of just 52 Km from Shimla is Arki,
once the capital of the princely state of Baghal. The lovely palace at Arki,
picturesquely located against a wooded hillside, is renowned for its Ast
Nayika frescoes, executed in the Arki Kalam style.
